Speed Test
The network speed you pay for is only guaranteed with a network cable, as Wi-Fi has too many variables. To get an accurate result, it’s important to install the Speedtest by Ookla application on the device you want to test with:
Microsoft Windows
If you have a Windows computer (Windows 8 or newer), please install "Speedtest by Ookla".
Mac
If you have a Mac computer, please install "Speedtest by Ookla".
Android
If you have an Android device (phone/tablet), please install the app "Speedtest by Ookla".
Apple / iOS
If you have an Apple device (phone/tablet), install the app "Speedtest by Ookla".
If you cannot install the Speedtest by Ookla app, you can do a quick check using the speed test tool below.
Note: Since this speed test runs in a web browser, the result will not be as accurate as using the Speedtest application.
Performing a speed test
To achieve accurate speed test results, it’s important to perform multiple tests and compare the results:
- Install the Speedtest application on your device and run one test against the Lyse Tele AS server in Bodø and another test against the Lyse Tele AS server in Oslo.
- The first test is done via WI-FI
- If you experience low speed, try restarting both your wireless router and the device you are testing from, then run the test again.
- If you experience low speed, try restarting both your wireless router and the device you are testing from, then run the test again.
- The second test is done via network cable by connecting a computer directly to the fiber modem. This will verify that the network speed coming into your home matches what you are paying for.
Important: If you use your own wireless router, you can use the same cable that connects the fiber modem to the router, but make sure to turn off the router. It may take up to 10 minutes before your computer gets internet access.
If the first test is poor but the second test is fine, the issue is most likely related to Wi-Fi.
In general we recommend using 5GHz Wi-Fi and consider a mesh Wi-Fi solution if the wireless coverage inside your home is not sufficient. If your router or computer is more than 5 years old, replacing it could improve performance.
